Resist saffronisation of the NMC

Date: 30/11/23

It has come to our attention that the National Medical Commission logo has been modified to feature ayurvedic monk, Dhanvantari. This change raises concerns about the potential politicization of symbols within government bodies. The union government is depicting the figure as religious symbolism. The usage of a religious figure in the logo of a state institution is perceived by some as conflicting with the secular principles of the Indian State and the constitution of India. This alteration reflects broader attempts to influence various sectors, including education and science. While constitutional responsibilities emphasize the promotion of scientific temper, there are differing perspectives on the union government's commitment to this principle.

The Students' Federation of India expresses its disapproval of what it perceives as an attempt to influence educational and healthcare systems, potentially compromising the secular values outlined in the constitution. SFI demands complete withdrawal of the altered NMC logo immediately.
